I am looking for a good reference to scanning - I have a large number of negatives that I want to scan, but have no idea where to start!
(I would like to DIY it for most of them, with a couple of "special" ones to have professionally scanned)
Thanks!

you can check out http://www.scantips.com for free information - a book is also offered, but the basics are on the site.

Bromo, IMO the best book available is Real World Scanning and Halftones. It is one that we recommend to folks who come to our scanning workshops.
I just got 1/2 way through "Real World Tips" and can recomend it.
Very helpful!
